Secession to Early Modernism in Textile Perpective.

“Secessionists and Werkstatters believed that objects, furniture and fashion should be created in harmonious styles, bringing a cohesive artiness to one's surroundings. The pictures above showing one of the textile designed by Gustav Klimt. The simplified form of leaves portraying their philosophy of secessionists. The usage of modern pattern as their motif in the textile design showed less decorative compare in the arts & craft movement. As stated above, the textile also act as a cohesive product can be use on other mediums. One design that fir for all.

In my opinion this lead to the more vigorous development designs in the world of textile. There is more exploration on the material and technique uses in the textile design.

How does concept of JOY OF WORK relate to modern thinking?
Arts & Crafts | Art NOUVEAU.

As a human we do best when it is something that we like most and the outcomes shall reflect our true characters. The sense of sincerity could be seen in product(s) that have been made by a joyful craftmans. It will deliver the message and communicate with potential users. INTERACTION between product and users is important in order to retain its popularity.

I think that the contribution of Arts & Crafts has laid out the roots on modern thinking. In addition Art Nouveau refine its characteristics in going towards modern thinking.

How does this concept of JOY of WORK started?
Some said its the devil who did it... HAHAHA.

Lets go back to the time of industrialization era in England. In the needs of producing more goods in fast speed (mass productioning goods) a lot of workers (Mens, Womens and young childrens) were "absorb" to work in a big factories in the cities. The working hours could be extend till late night just to finish up an amount of workloads.

The factories interiors is full with dust and people are handling dangerous chemicals without a proper attires. The wages earned by these people is too little and hardly can... The bojour is making more money with is capitalism method. During this era, there is no laws that protect the labours from the extreme way of working condition.

Heaps of garbage and ashes lie in all directions, and the foul liquids emptied before the door gather stinking pools. Here live the poorest of the poor, the worst paid workers with thieves and the victims of prostitution indiscriminately huddled together, the majority Irish, or of Irish ectraction, and those who have not yet sunk in the whirlpool of moral ruin which surrounds them, sinking daily deeper, losing daily more and more of thier power to resist the demoralising influence of want, filth, and surroundings. It is common for people conducting protests in the first half 19th century against the horror of the Industrial Revolution. The protestors tone is often ineffectual, the wind of change is needed before social ills destroy Englands Economy.

KABOOM!

This is where arts and crafts movement evolved and developed during the second half of the 19th century. In general, this movement emphasized on the welldesigned environment -fashioned with beautiful and well-crafted buildings, furniture, tapistries and ceramics. The main person behind this idea was expressed by William Morris.

In his Lectures on Socialism, Morris wrote that 'Art is Man's expression of his joy in Labour', an expression that the pressure of industrialized factory work had rendered impossible. Morris continues: 'Since all persons... must produce in some form or another it follows that under our present system most honest men must lead unhappy lives since their work... is devoid of pleasure'. As stated above, Morris is concerned with the current situation of working condition for the labours in factory. The improvement on both aesthethic standards and working condition should be not neglected.

'You must make either a tool of the creature or a man of him. You cannot make both. Men were not intended to work with accuracy of tools, to be precise and perfect in all their actions. If you will have that precision out of them, and make their fingers measure degrees like cog-wheels, and their arms strike curves like compasses, you must unhumanize them.' by Ruskin (source: Adams, Steven The Arts & Crafts Movement 1996 Quintet Publishing Limited London)

As stated above, Inspired from the medieval era, Ruskin strongly believed that men and women can produce more creative and beautiful works by retaining the sense of humanity.

Hence from the visuals above, one can clearly see the difference on the workmanship.
1) The detailing on each products is truely came from the craftmens individual aesthethic values. 2) The inspiration on nature were greatly captured to symbolized the appreciation of beautiful
mother nature back in the village.
3) It is one of a kind product which solely made for the upper class who is the target market at
that time.
4) Craftmens generate their own individual ideas and execute it well into the final products.

This movement has led people to appreciate the aesthethics and also brings more creative exploration on producing arts & crafts. The thinking process creates new beginning of new movement in the next chapter of design history. This is where the continution of Joy of Work concept on another movement and help to flourish more great ideas and philosophies. The birth of ART NOUVEAU.

How does Art Nouveau play its role in creating modern thinking?

Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau (french) means NEW ART.

Ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau (AN) is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and was employed most often in architecture, interior design, jewellery and glass design, posters, and illustration. It was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the imitative historicism that dominated much of 19th-century art and design.

It was called Jugendstil in Germany, Sezessionstil in Austria, Stile Floreale (or Stile Liberty) in Italy, and Modernismo (or Modernista) in Spain.

In AN movement, a new style starts to develop and flourish. It is considered as a TOTAL STYLE (whole environment) of a design. Nature inspired designs were simplified into a simple form.

Here are some of the artists associated with AN movement:

1)Hector Guimard.
2) Victor Horta.
3) Antonio Gaudi.
4) Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

most of the artist in AN movement tended to avoid the intricate design in their works. The were more attracted to organic shapes and plantlike motifs. It emphasized on form which used different kind of materials (mix medias). In other words, AN movement more interested on questioning artistic creation.

The artwork above shows that this movement starting to moving on minimal style. As most of the elements were stylized in simple forms. The continuity of each element on a product can be seen repeated in a one space or as holistic.

After 1910 Art Nouveau starts to lost it charms and appeared to be out of style. However, the declining of AN will reveal the modern style in the later development of design movement. Both of the movements has "pengaruh" the thinking process in order to develop an idea. In the context of design history, AN act like a bridge which connects the aesthetics with modern style.

The philosopher who taught of this important statement has great impact to our future life. This is because his way of thinking has triggered the others questioning the existence of life and one self. Another way of understanding this philosophy is that he is thinking towards logical point of view. One needs to prove an existence with a solid evidence and justification.

HOW does Descarte's quote brings us to the thinking of modern man?

In the center of commotion resulted from high payment of taxation to the church and overthrowing the monarchies, people need new guide on continuing their life. The appearance of Rene Descartes and his philosophy has attracted minds to think beyond and explore the world of KNOWLEDGE.

Descartes stated, “The chief cause of our errors is to be found in the prejudice of our childhood.”

This is why he starts to doubt everything and he will only accept as true only those things that were demonstrably true to him. He reasoned that doubt was a thought, and thought could not take place without someone think to it.

In the statement above clearly referring to his vision on the importance of discovering knowledge of science. The ongoing process of discovering new knowledge has brought more intellectuals people to debate and collaborate for the sake of knowledge. His published works were later use by other philosophers and individuals for further research.

One of example of his findings which being used till today is the algebraic geometry coordinates which now called Cartesian coordinates. He suggested solution on how to solve intricate problems which by breaking large problems into smaller steps that could be completely understood. Here we can see that creative thinking among philosophers starts to generate and could be apply to other field(s).

The progress work of artfish studio for the piala seri endon 2010 will be update via fb and blog beginning 1st till 21st november. The grand final special update will be update on 2nd december.

At this stage of progress, the final artworks are under embellishment process. A special photo shoot will be taking place in november before the competition starts.

For your information, the semi final will be held in Hotel Seri Pacific Kuala Lumpur. The hotel is situated near PWTC.

Salam

Hye shume... its been a quite sum time i have not update my blog kan... gosh! so here it goes.. im gona tell ya my pengalaman last friday.

Its 6.00 pm, its time to go back from my office in kl. Me and my colleague zoom off to kl sentral to catch the 6.45 train to pelabuhan klang. Once we arrived, they announced that its gona be late for 1 hour... ARGH!!! mak aku goreng cempedak pun dah habis tau...

next.. we took the RAPID bus heading to sunway. OMG. the bus is full with "rempah ratus"... smells so yucky lah! like rotten fish ya know.. i dah nak muntah okay.. sampai takat leher dah tahan bau busuk dalam bus.. gosh! korang tak mandi ke?? gile babas busuk. euw euw euw...

suddenly there is one guy screaming for help. "matilah aku, matilah matilah"... cuz his kaki tersepit between the door.. HAHA padan muka! bus tu kan dah sempit.. yg ko duduk belakang pintu tu kenapa sengal...

then we arrived at sunway... i went to the giant to buy sum asams... sbb kepala dah pening sangat bau rempah ratus dalam bus tadi. busuk! euw! disgusting! after dinner i decided to take the taxi instead.. the driver wus sooo rude and celaka! he scolded me for showing the long way back home... hello! aku bayar ko lah sengal!!! no wonder hes a taxi driver lah.. (but not other cab drivers r like dat lah kan) so sampai rumah... syukran. it wus a bad day for me... no more taxi ride with the kap lam ya nge... im so not goin to ride anymore cabs after this incident. uwek!

so peeps... please be careful when u ride the rapid, taxi or ktm... :P

Yeah! im proud to participated in this world wide event!!! Malaysia Boleh! mmm NOT!
so its time to switch off the lights for an hour from 8.30pm till 9.30pm. just one hour... i can do dat... well i have experienced for not having electricity for one day long.. apela sangat satu jam. so my family and i decided to do switch off the lights, tv and few not important plugs. The fridge stays on coz we have some "valuable" stuffs in there.. bak kata pepatah.. tak baik membazir. hahaha..

Approximately 8.15pm, we qucikly clean up the dishes and get ready to experience the 1 hour of darkness.. but the lampu jalan still on. INCLUDING rumah agam behind my house.. hahaha!
the street lights wud be okay, but some houses just being selfish not to participate in this kind of event.. mayb the have thier own reason(s)... well, let them be.. What i want to share with u is this, i smses my frens to join in switching off the lights.. Here r some of their responds to me. Hilarious!

1) pish, takut la nak tutup lampu. sorang je nih... tutup sket sket je.. ikut syarat.

2) Yeah. we r having our dinner. the ligsht is off. (dinner party in a restaurant)

3) cannot lah, i got kenduri. my guest wil ran away later on. hehehehe

6) okesh. yes boss!

9) yeah! m not at home. hehehe.

12) bro sory tak balas, tade credit lah (thru YM) -- this one paling kesian.

There it goes people.. analyze it. some definetely support it. however there is some of us not so into it.. like i said, mayb the have some good reasons to not doing that.

The journey to Johor by car wud take around 4 hours.. argh! it has been sooo long not goin back to johore. not to worries.. cuz i have equiped myself with my newest gadget. yeas... the ipod shuffle.. hehehe.. blah2, arrived in JB around 1pm. check in, lepak2.

fyi, there is also berita harian crew that day, promoting the anugerah fofular dot dot tu.. wus hoping to get a glimpse of fofular stars.. nah. not a chance. they were out jalan2 around jb i think. damn.

during the lepak2, we go around the area to jalan2 makan2... we went to Plaza Larkin. i nicknamed it.. Plaza Linkin Park. ahaks. glam sket. My mom bought new baju melayu for dad and jib jib. well.. i wanted to buy one, unfortunately theres no size for me. aiya...

then we went back to the hotel.. get ready for >MALAM BERINAI< huyeah.

Hari ni Vday, hish mane boleh sambut.. non boleh! I decided to go GARDEN mid valley with my family coz my brother wuna buy his art stuffs. wuuuu kalah aku! we went to this new art shop, just name it... they have it in store. if u r looking for baby chics or spider, hahaha u went to the wrong shop okays! this shop fully stocked with art supplies for those art enthusiast. the price for an item, not bad and reasonable lah... hey business is business... hehehe, for me its kinda expensive yet affordable lah. i bought small square canvas and "benda emas lilit" aka tinsel stem... hahaha. choy je. i wud recommend all artists and designers too check out this place. two thumbs up! its ART FRIEND shop, located same floor as borders.

then afta walking around the mall, me wus so hungry. nyum! got new place to dine in. its a food court located beside BORDERS book store. hmmm its a nice place ya know. ada KELAS! ahaks. i ordered this iranian dish. gosh sedap! RM 17 per plate.. mmg la sedap! lubang pokets aku! hahaha.. it wus worth it... sodappp. check out "The house of iranian" kot.. i cant remember.. but its specialized in iranian foods.

Hey what a surprise! A few weeks ago, my mom spotted 2 kittens under the pandan tree... yerp 2 cute kittens is born. The mummy (saloma) is in good condition! shes kinda fat too.. so the kitties i named it elm(black) and smurf(white). The mother seems to be protective with her kitties. Hurm.. garang sangat. When even i refill the food cointaner with freeskies.. she hisses at me.. Hey thats so rude! hehehe.. owh well kitties.

I went to mid valley mega mall for lunch with my family at chilis. I wanted to buy new shades at ZARA, unfortunately the item sold out. DAMN! I should have bought it the moment i tried wearing it back few weeks ago, oraite no luck on the item, went to the expo center to look for a new medicine so called Magic Healing stuff. The item also "kehabisan stok".. aiya..

Its Chinese New Year, majority of the shops are closed till tuesday. I decided to go back after 10 minutes of hang around in mid valley. The visuals that i posted together showing some of my shots i took while in midvalley. Till then..

I went to jusco, pyramid with megat to find a nice tie for my upcoming convocation ceremony. Instead of finding a tie.. i bought a STAR WARS LIGHTSABER... yes its a toy! Well i waited for 1 year to purchase this stuff. Its 70% sale, totally bargain. Those who are star wars fan shud understand WHY i bought it.

Later we went to subway for lunch. I also bought new belt... so that i could wear on my convo day. yippy. till then..

So my frens and I went to the siganture to watch mr bond. Overall its a good movie yet sumhow i dont feel the excitement like the previous bond movies. The action scenes is so scarry! patut la dia bwat plastic surgery... hehehe...

So before the movie starts.. we went to the bowling and games center.. It wus soooo fun playing at mid valley's bowling alley. Feels like clubbing at chokia club je. ahaha... it wus fun thou... The best part is I won the mini match... "mcm biasa". Then we play sum games which uses the token thingy.. I paid like RM 30 i think.. haish. membazir...

After a while at the games center tu.. i decided to play "tikam hadiah" which u need to control the robotic arm carefully aim at your prize which is mr jack skelington! I tried once, hell no way gona get that jack. try few more later on... Shezam! i got it.. hehehe.. along, ikin, wirda and i were screaming!!! dapat dapat!!! hahahaha...

At 11 sumthing.. we rush back to the cinema to watch bond 007. I bought the masin popcorn.. which sumhow taste like curry... dont ask me why.. perhaps the salt being mix with sum curry powder. hurm.. interesting.

After the movie.. we go for supper.. it wus 2-3 am already at that time... the place wus bangsar food court..erh.. kotornye.. takpe layan je la... the entire family of roaches were there!!! euw. I ordered ayam kunyit... adn 2 glasses of teh ais. Along brought us "sata" that day... but unfortunately the sata is turnin bad. kesian along. all the way from pahang... hurm thanks along! next time i shall melahap all the sata k... Imie and aweng hisap shisha... being curious so i smoked that thing too... honestly, its soo yucky! hehehe.. later that night i start to become dizzy and semput.. thats first and last... no more shisha guys.. :P

Well, first thing for sure is to do research and gather some vital informations regarding to one particular subject matter. then i will start sketching some idea and develop it into more detail design. Yerp thats the basic process of design that i practice since when i start to study art n design.

Okay, lets do some design today people. My current project is designing a book for little riyadh. I will show u some of the design process later on ya. till then.. auvoir.

What i can say is: WORTH IT!
for rm 15.90 per person, mcm mcm ada u ols...

if u guys wuna go there, be early by 6 kene ada kat situ.. especially on weekends.

then lepas berbuka we went to ikea, ape lagi shopping lah...
i bought royal almond london cookies...
RM 10 per box, sangat sedap...
kalah mak milah nye...
hihihi...

then we went to starbucks, minum coffe... i ordered vanilla latte.. very french!
ahaks...

sempat lagi malam tu tengok the love guru...

Hureah...
Im back... so lets begin my picnic trip ye...
The objective is actually to celebrate an comolots birthday...
haha... 23 oledi... sweet 23 katenye... more like sour la an... kidding...

so here it goes.. i woke up late that day, 270708... Damn! pulak kat rumah tade air...
hey! i mandi ok... gitu. Then off to KTM subang jaya. Ya ampun! the train plak lambat datang...
lagi la lambat nak ke kl sentral. At this hour, bob already sms me like 4 times... asking WHERE AM I? hahaha... as usualah... fashionably late gitu...

around 11 sumthing... datang la makhluk ktm ni...
SYUKRAN... zoom to kl sentral... but my happiness was not so happy after all... ramai okay dalam train... macam ikan sardin.. OMG! well im late! terjah je la... lucky pancit DKNY byk tadi... hahaha.. my mom said im like a giant apple... coz it smells like apple.

so there i wus in the train. packed with malaysians. (Dear KTM, tambah la more trains... just like in Paris!!!) sampai sampai... everyone gush out from the train... haiyooo.... so malaysians tau! im heading to the KFC to meet bob and aweng... as i about to enter the KFC, terkejut mak nyah! Awengs hair is so comel. jambul ayam dah skarang... cantik ke? kelas!

Dah la lambat... so i ordered 1 bucket of chickins... mix of spicy and original. after 2o minutes we went straight to klcc park with blue Chevrolet. kelas nox! mak ske. hahahaa...

At the park, we meet with the organiser lady. of course... miss toadies... hihihi so comel.. shes so petite. Owh there is also tods frens... very nice lady... smarty pants too.. ahaks.

So everyone is lapar dah... while awengs went to buy drinks, we search for a picnic spot. I called it bukit dayang bunting... ahaks. so picnic la makhluk makhluk ni atas bukit tu... we spread the cloth over the grass and place the yummy stuff on it. 1 2 3! makan time... alhamdulilah..

the menu wus spaghetti, cikin kfc, cup cakes, nugget bob and drinks. sederhana yet kenyang sgt.
Owh i did not mentioned to u guys one thing. Yatod siap tutup mata raihan... to make it a surprise party... KAEDAH! so sweet... terkejut raihan... mak menjerit... hahahaha.. lol.

one thingy which annoyed us is the guard at the park.. mengalahkan referee futbol. preet! preet! dia tak mau orang bercengkerama kat taman... makhluk makhluk gatal tu pun satu... nak beromen tgh taman klcc.. motif? so cek pong. but some of them are wife and husband. dorang tak der la cium comolot ke ape ke... just sitting on the grass relaxing... tibe tibe kene sound... so CELAKA kan.. whatever la pak guard. ur world.

then megat show up! yay for megat... he made it on TIME
after the movie, we say gud bye to birthday boy ann the two ladies... hihihi... then i, bob, yunus and toge lepak at the klcc infamous fountain. makan lagi! yes. we like to eat!... the left overs still yummy... Tgh makan makan tu... ader la mamat asing ni.. usha dek usha. i dunno why... lapar ke? dah la habis makanan... hurm... kesian. tak tawu lah kan. aper aper pun i doakan hes gona be okay.

So dah 9 lebih dah... we decided to go home dah... imie send me and bob to kl sentral... back to subang jaya for me.. and kepong for bob... Ok this time... KTM tak ramai. just nice la... ader few ladies stand infront of me tu ngade sgt... eeuw. menggeletis! Whatever...

Huhuhu... panjangkan blog ini... hahaha inilah dia picnic comel ku yang the best... hope to do it again in sum other time... my birhtday 12 august is coming... hurm i better plan it now. Till then, salam to all... mwah mwah...

The final exam result is out... TERKEJUT? a bit lah... HAPPY? a bit lah...
hahaha.. honestly im very happy with the result...
First Class Degree tu... even thou did not get the famous ANC award, yet somehow it is much important understand what you have learned in the past 5 years in UiTM.
So people, do not just aim for A's.... LEARNED!
Okay... result is out what's next? KAWIN? KERJA? MASTER? HIBERNASI?
haha... wait for my next post yah...
HUYEAH!!! cant wait for the convo ceremony... weeeeee....
